After all, the issues leading to the Cambridge Analytica controversy were exacerbated by the ability of apps to comb through their users' friends lists, right? I don't see a great use case for friends lists being viewable, even by friends, unless it's required for the platform's functioning -- and maybe it is, but I don't know enough about this.
I'm trying to set up a #Hubzilla and I'm at the point where I have to choose Channel Role / Privacy. All of the roles allow other people to see connections (friends) -- even the Private role: "Only your connections can see your other connections."
Maybe it is fundamental to how Hubzilla works. If not, it would be great to be able to keep connections private in all circumstances.
This is a thread about computers.
I have a lot to say.
I might not be able to finish right now.
I'm going to post unlisted.
My nephew has an ipad.
He asked his dad how to write games. His dad didn't know. His dad asked me how to write games on an iPad. I told him not to bother.
My nephew asked me how to learn to write games.
I gave him a raspberry pi and a copy of pico 8.
Now he writes computer games.
He couldn't do that on his iPad.

New to administering a Mastodon instance, here—
Any recommendations on how to go about increasing the character limit of user profile descriptions? I have seen this in effect on other instances. Thanks in advance.

I have a feeling there’s going to be a lot of questions. Some of you wont even know what I’m back from/for?
I’m back as Project Manager for #Mastodon.
I’m back from being sick, too sick to function. I ended up getting a month and a half of sick-leave, but it took me a while to actually get there. And that, together with some other stuff, has brought me back, on top of the world (that's how I feel)
Love that my favorite Android Masto app, #Tusky, is open source. Love the fact that #Pinafore and #Halcyon exist as alternative web UIs. Love that #Pleroma is coming along well as an alternative #ActivityPub server. Love that the sex worker community on #Switter is actively working on building open source tech that works for their use case. Love to see instances like #OpenSocialAfrica and vis.social.
Y'all inspire me that this open source/free software thing may actually work out in the end. :)
#Pinafore v0.2.0 is out!

Exodus Privacy @exodus is now available on F-Droid: https://f-droid.org/app/org.eu.exodus_privacy.exodusprivacy
For now it only works on apps installed through google play though that hopefully improves in the future.
